What is fostering?
Foster care provides a safe, secure home for a child or young person that is no longer able to live with their parents or other members of their family. There are many reasons why this may be the case, including areas of abuse, neglect, parental illness or death, domestic violence or drug and alcohol abuse, the reasons are individual to each child and young person. The important aspect to remember is that all children and young people requiring foster care have all suffered trauma.
Some fostering tasks are shorter term, to enable parents to make the changes needed for children to return to their care or an alternative arrangement can be sought. Some fostering tasks are longer term for the duration of a child’s childhood into adulthood.
